Sales from the Discrete and IC Business Unit accounted for approximately 34% of semiconductor sales in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2008. The unit is largely comprised of businesses such as display drivers, analog ICs, discrete and compound semiconductor devices.


Business Highlights

  • Power MOSFET
    NEC Electronics is reinforcing its power MOSFET business. Based on a proprietary process, these devices are used in automobiles and battery devices. To boost production of power MOSFET, NEC Electronics decided to expand floor space at NEC Semiconductor Kansai's 8-inch line.
  • Switch ICs for wireless communications
    NEC Electronics boasts the world's top market share* for switch ICs (compound semiconductors), used in mobile phones and other wireless communication applications.

  • Display drivers
    Development of high-performance display drivers is critical to increasing the size and resolution of flat-panel TVs and LCD monitors. NEC Electronics is taking effective measures to enhance cost competitiveness in this area.
